Undoubtedly, violence shown by media might do harm to the public especially some teenagers, whereby causing violent crimes to some extent in our society. However, controlling the amount of violence in media by governments is not the key for this problem, whereas it is just a perfunctory method that can never solve this problem thoroughly.

Primarily, reducing the amount of violence broadcasted by media cannot avoid detailed description of violence which can be seen as the key factor leaving negative impression and imparting harmful information to the public. A 90-minute film may merely contain 3-minute violent plots which are bloody enough that all viewers will remember this for a long time. Some viewers of this movie will, unquestionably, be impacted adversely by what they saw. Accordingly, the level of violent crimes in our society is not able to be decreased by reducing the amount of violence in media.

Additionally, restraining the amount of violence in media cannot guarantee the information they show about violence is appropriate to the masses. Movies and some TV programs tend to shape heroes who defy laws and who answer violence with violence in order to win a better box office. Those outlaws should have been punished by laws, but they become legendary figures on screens. The distorted values mislead people to believe that violence is what they should rely on rather than laws while facing some difficulties in their life. By analogy, there is no immediate causality between less violence in media and lower level of violent crimes.

In conclusion, for lowering the level of violent crimes in our society, what governments should do is far more than controlling how much violence media can show. Instead, how media broadcast violent information is what governments ought to pay more attention to.
